Friday at 9 p.m. I proposed to Amy and we are now engaged. It will be a pretty short engagement. Details to follow for those interested. | | Monday, February 2nd, 2009 | | 1:26 pm |
So here I am, about a month after surgery. Recovery went extremely well. The Dr. was even surprised at how well I handled everything and healed. I was never in a lot of pain like they thought I would be. It was painful to swallow most of the time, but it wasn't near as bad as they expected it to be. I was very cautious about what I did and what I ate and drank during recovery. I had a LOT of water, gatoraid/poweraid, and tea. I did not eat anythign more solid than like mac and cheese or mashed potatos for about two weeks. I really just wanted to make sure I did not have and complications, or bleeding, etc.
So did it work? Officially undecided since I have not done a sleep study yet to find out. However, I feel like I am sleeping better. I am no longer falling asleep in class like I did all the time, and I am more alert during the day. I wake up and am not dragging my feet near as bad as I used to, and in general, I am in a better mood most of the day. Now, with being more awake and alert during the day, at night I feel SO much more tired than I ever really did before. It is a weird feeling on both ends. I was so used to just kindof being tired all the time, but this is a new, more intense tired feeling, and a lot more alert awake. I think I am not snoring anymore as well. So overall, I am happy.
Ok, thats enough for now. | | Monday, December 15th, 2008 | | 11:54 pm |
Ok, so its been a LONG freakin time since I posted on here. Not a lot has been going on....I think. I am now "Customer Assistant Senior" at work. Along with the nifty title came a decent raise. It is more stress, but after the holidays it should lighten up some. I got a new phone, and so hopefully I am not missing texts and not getting calls etc. This is a different number than my old one, but instead of posting it on here, you can call my old number if you had it and the greeting on there will give you my new number. Along with this, I also got unlimited texts now, so feel free to text me anytime. <rant> Um...lets see...not much else. Just REALLY ready for the holidays to be over. People get so rude, demanding and whiney during the holidays when they are shopping. It is not my fault if we sold out of that cheap thing in the ad that everyone wanted that you didn't get before we sold out. It is not my fault that there are 300 customers in the store, 40 associates working and you didn't get help as soon as you walked in the store. Yes, thats the best deal we can do on that tv. No I won't just "throw that in for free". No it isn't funny even if you are playing around since everyone says it. Yes, I will help you as soon as I get a chance. Why didn't you grab a cart on the way in if you knew you were going to purchase a new desktop computer with monitor, printer, etc.? Why can't you just grab the item you want on the shelf? Does it really require you saying "Ok, I think I'll buy that," and then just looking at it while waiting for me to pick it up, and once I do pick it up, take it when I try to hand it to you, because I am not your freaking personal shopping cart with legs. I realize you want it before Christmas, but maybe you should have thought about that before it got too late to wait on shipping. I could go on and on.... </rant> Oh yeah...also I have surgery coming up on Dec. 29th. Hopefully all will go well and recovery will be quick and as painless as possible. I am having surgery done to hopefully take care of my sleep apnea. They are taking out the tonsils, adnoids, uvula, removing some excess skin around the throat, and opening up my nasal passage some. Some people seem to be in working order within about a week of this surgery, and some people are out for a month or more. Heres hoping I recover quickly...I can't afford to take any more time off from work than I already will be since the time I am taking off is eating all of my paid time off. I also cant afford to miss school, because I am so close to graduating that it hurts. So on Dec. 29th, just say a little prayer for me. Ok, so this was longer than I thought it would be, so im signing off. Have a good one. | | Friday, April 4th, 2008 | | 11:09 pm |
LJ Madlibs Dear Kevin, I don't really know how to tell you this, but I dislike you. I think I realized it when I saw the shrunken head under the bus and I saw you carve your initials into my avocado plant. I'm sure you're man enough to understand that santa doesn't exist. I'm returning your ring to you, but I'll keep your collection of butterflies as a memory. You should also know that I told in my confession today about to hate the Boston Celtics.
Fuck off now, Terrell

List
Leave me a comment. Give me a list of things that make you happy. I am lacking in the happiness lately. | | Monday, October 29th, 2007 | | 9:42 am |
Vick 'em
Where is the national outcry over the Vick ' em shirts seen here --> http://www.supbroshirts.com/index.htmlIt was all over national news when a few select students at tech sold similar shirts at a stand. Everyone called all of Texas Tech classless and many other names, even though it was less than 1% of the population that was involved with it, be it selling or buying. No one has mentioned the UT version yet. So suddenly its ok? Hypocrites... | | Monday, September 24th, 2007 | | 9:12 am |
So, my last post was huge, so comment damnit! To post something like that and get no comments is a bit discouraging. ANYWAY, so we lost to OSU on Saturday. Not happy about it, but something is finally being done about our defense with our defensive coordinator resigning. Hopefully we will learn how to tackle and not lose our assignments in the secondary. Saturday morning (which would have been my first chance to sleep in in about 3 weeks or so), I woke up early and did the race for the cure thing for breast cancer. I did the 1 mile, and afterwards felt like I probably should have done the 5k. Oh well, at least I did it. Sunday was a nice relaxing do nothing day that I did actually sleep in for. Today is just a regular day of classes and whatnot, and then I have work tonight. Tomorrow is the LISD extravaganza, in which all of the LISD bands play (even the middle schools), and then the Goin' Band caps it off (as a single band), and then all of the LISD bands come back on the field for a finale. There is probably a good 3 or 4 times as many on the field at this point as the Goin' Band has, and we are probably at least twice as loud. I am doing the sleep test on Wednesday, that should be interesting. I am almost positive they will make me sleep with an oxygen mask, and while I know it would help, I would much rather have some kind of surgery than have to wear a mask every night for the rest of my life. Either way, I should start getting a more restful sleep, which means more energy, higher metabolism, and fewer naps. Thursday is just a normal day with a short work shift at the end of the day. Friday I am not sure about yet (plans pending), but Saturday is most definately GAME DAY!!!! James and Sherry will be here for that game. I never see them so that will be nice. My parents will also be here, as well as Gregs parents (roomie). If we do not just completely destroy Northwestern Louisiana, then we have issues. Anyway, thats my week in a nutshell, hope everyone is doing ok. Comment, let me know you are all alive. *blows dust off of lj* (LONG)
Ok, so its been a while since my last update. I guess most of the time I feel like there is nothing to talk about, and when there is, I am too busy to write. Right now I am in a break between classes. As much as I would like to be napping, its just not an easy thing to do in the student union without everyone you know walking by to wake you up. Ok, so June went by without a whole lot going on other than my parents going to Florida for a vacation. I stayed in Amarillo to watch the dogs while they were gone. I was crazy sick the whole time I was there too. Thank God the Dr. gave me a good shot and meds to help me get better before I got back to Lubbock. Oh, I also went to my brother and sister-in-law's house in Houston. They have a really nice house. I had missed their dogs, and apparently they had missed me too because they were excited to see me. I miss them again :(. While I was there, they took me around town to show me some sights, ate at a lot of places I had never eaten at before, and James took me on a tour of NASA (Him and Sherry both work there). There is a lot of really cool stuff to look at while there. July..... (this is all one story) this month started off horrible. On the 4th of July, I came home from work, oh, and my roommate was in New Jersey visiting his girlfriend, but anyway, I came home from work (we closed early, so it was like 6:35ish when I was getting home) and saw that my side gate was open and my first thought was "probably the neighbor kids had to get something out of my yard". I decided to go ahead and check it out, as I got into the back yard, I saw that the alley gate was open and thought, "thats suspicious," and got completely into the back yard and found that the back door into my laundry room was kicked in. At this point the first thought in my head was "oh shit...I've been robbed!" So, this is where most people would probably call the police....not me....I decide to walk in and check out the damage. I walk into the laundry room and see my toolbox and all of my roommates tools lined up by the door like they were ready to walk out at any moment. Confused, I went into the main part of the house and saw in the hallway my laptop, both of my trumpets, my safe, my roommates safe, his girlfriends computer, monitor and printer. This is where the other normal people that hadn't called the police would have.....not me...I was surveying what was in the hallway and heard voices and was like "WTF? they are still here?" I head down the hallway and see that my roommates light is on. I look around the corner and see a mexican guy and I say "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?!?!" Well, he immediately looks like he is about to need a change of pants. After the initial shock of me being there, he starts making threats like "You better leave right now, or we will fuck you up." I look at him and his partner (who is kneeling by the closet stuffing things into a pillow case), and say "no you won't" (these guys couldn't have been over 5'8" and skinny build). The guy thats kneeling gets up and reaches in the front of his pants and my mind freaks out for a second going "Oh shit, he has a gun", but when he left his hand there and made the threat of "you better leave right now" I knew he didn't have a gun and said, "what you got? nothing? thats what I thought." At that point I walk in the rest of the way into the bedroom and close the door behind me. Here is the point where I am thinking, "do I call the cops or just start kicking ass?" I decide to call 911 and as I am dialing and as its ringing, they are pleading with me "Please let us go and we won't take anything and we will just leave!" I consider it for a second and say "Empty your pockets and I will let you go." They say again that they will leave and not take anything and I tell them again to empty their pockets. The operator picks up and I say "Last chance..empty your pockets....no?...ok (to operator) I am being robbed in my house by 2 mexican guys, my address is __________." While they are trying to comfirm what I said, I notice the guys are getting too antsy, so I hang up the phone. One guy reaches for the blinds and tears them down and tries to open the window, which had been painted not too long ago and, while it does go up, it takes a great deal of effort. He couldn't get it open, but I was watching him and while watching him, the other guy had picked up the folding chair at my roommates desk and threw it at me. It glanced off my head and shoulder and put a dent in the wall. I give him a look of "oh, you are gonna die for that one!" and again he looks like he might need a change of pants. The guy by the window lunges at me at this point throwing punches and whatnot. Either none of the punches landed or I didn't feel it. After I throw him back some, the guy that threw the chair thew a 20 lb dumbbell at me. It hits my neck/shoulder and then puts a hole in the wall behind me. At this point my goal is to keep both of them in the room til the cops get there. They both start to wrestle me. Now, I can overpower these 2 guys, but they have me out maneuvered. They get me far enough away from the door to open it and run out. I chase after them, and apparently in the struggle to get out, one of them had picked up the dumbbell again and when running through the kitchen, threw it at me, it hit me in the chest and then put a dent in the kitchen floor. I am in my work clothes and work shoes, so I was not able to catch up to them. I chased them as far as the alley and called 911 again and told them what had happened and where I saw them running off to. About a minute later, a cop rings my doorbell. They look around the neighborhood but don't find anyone matching the description of who I saw. They take fingerprints and all that and ask me about the incident. They leave and I never hear anything else about it. Since I came home, I kept them from getting anything but my roommates Tech class ring and a 2gb flash drive. That night I drilled 3" screws into the back door to keep it closed (since its late on a holiday, I knew I couldn't get the stuff I needed and get it done. My dad comes the next day to put up a new door while I am at work. Oh, I called my parents after the ordeal and they had my family over for a cookout. So here I am, on an adrenaline high and so pissed off that I'm shaking, I am cussing up a storm and griping about what happened, and THEN I realized that I was on speakerphone in front of my dads side of the family. My concentration shouldn't have been to keep both of them in there, had I concentrated on one of them, my goal of keeping both in there probably would have succeeded. I did worry about a retaliation hit with weapons a second time, but thankfully that hasn't happened. Its funny, you always think, "That couldn't happen to me, that happens to other people"....well it did. At this point the realization kicks in that to everyone else, you are the other people. Anyway, lets move on. The rest of July seemed kinda hazy. I am having serious trouble sleeping. I am about 99% sure I have sleep apnea, its just a matter of how bad and what can be done to help. I am gonna go to a sleep clinic and set up a time to get a sleep study done. I am never rested because with sleep apnea, you stop breathing and sometimes struggle to breathe. It never wakes me up, but it keeps me from getting into the deeper levels of sleep to get rested. August: My birthday rolls around and now I am another year older :(. Anyway, I had a good birthday overall :). Then summer band started. That was pretty intense. I could really feel my age this year. Plus it was more humid this year than it has been in the past, so the sweating was worse than usual. First week of school comes, and we are done with pregame and almost the entire halftime show. Classes start and all that. Now my sleeping is so unrestful that anytime I sit anywhere (including at my computer) for anything more than like 30 minutes, I can't stay awake. I have been either at class, band, work, or at home sleeping. I barely wake up to eat sometimes. But I have been going to class, even my 7am trumpet routine. So, Tech is 2-0 so far. If they want to keep the loss column at a 0 for much longer, then we seriously need to work on our defense. Particularly not leaving holes open and (heres the main thing) tackling. We have to stop trying for the big hit and just grab, or wrap them up and just take them down. I would rather have a dragging down tackle than a 20 yard run. It seems like there was more I was going to say, but I have been sitting here typing for a while and my mind is getting hazy again. Oh, I got a new phone, its pretty nice :). Its the Samsung Sync (red). Anyway, I think thats it for now....have a good one. Current Mood: blank | | Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 | | 4:24 pm |

Research paper... Just taking a short break from writing my paper. I don't have that much left, but to fulfill my page requirement will be kindof hard. I have already put in basically a full page of BS and irrelevant facts that I try to tie into the thesis of the paper. I still have 2 pages left to write. I still need to write a conclusion, which MIGHT take a page. So I need to maybe hit up the thesaurus to make some words longer ;-).
Oh, by the way, its almost 3am, and I have to leave town around 6am to get on my way to Oklahoma for my friend, Shawn's wedding rehearsal and suit (not tux) try-ons. On my way out of town, I have to stop by the music building and drop off my research paper. I am thinking that I won't get any sleep until after I reach Amarillo (and thats because my dad will be driving from Amarillo to Tulsa).
During this wedding weekend, I will also have to do work on a project for my trumpet studio. BLECH....It wouldn't be so bad if I had started a little sooner, but I swear that the due date for it was April 30th, not the 20th (which he extended until the 23rd now). I am still waiting on a couple of my Solos (part of the project) to get shipped to my house. I found out that doing overnight shipping and paying $30 extra to have that done means nothing to this company who after hitting confirm tells you "may take 1 to 2 weeks to process order in warehouse."
Ok...back to the paper, because after I finish that, I have to shave, shower, and pack for the weekend. Oh crap...gotta finish up my laundry too..... t-minus 3 hours and counting til deadline... | | Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 | | 9:55 pm |

driving Ok, seriously...
You all need to drive safely. I am tired of people being killed in car wrecks. I have personally known 7 people now that have been killed in car wrecks. This time it was a coworker. He was only 17 and a really good guy.
Next time you need to take a trip, make sure you are awake and alert. 3 of the 7 people I know that were killed in car crashes were killed on the highway after falling asleep at the wheel. | | Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 | | 8:30 am |
I'm goin to hell... (Big freaking rant)
Ok, so not a lot going on with me lately. Spring break was all about work and if I wasn't at work, I was watching tv or playing games because everyone else was out of town. This summer I will have to request off some time and actually get the hell out of town for a while. So if anyone wants to do anything this summer, let me know when and where and I will see what I can do. At some point I think I will probably go to Houston to visit my brother and his wife. Also, we have an extra bedroom with a bed in it, so if anyone wants to come visit, feel free. As I said, nothing really new with me. I got a new laptop last month. It has been pretty nice. Vista takes a ton of freaking resources, but it is ok. I still use my desktop for everything I do at home, but the laptop has been GREAT for notes in class and doing stuff up at school. I am now in debt to Best Buy for the next year and a half (got it at 18 months no interest). I did get the 4 year service plan, so if I drop it and crack the screen, or a drink gets spilled on it, its covered, and thats pretty badass. In 3.9 years, even if nothing else has gone wrong with it, I can have them replace the battery. I am gonna try to get into shape this summer. My goal is that by summer band next semester (I guess I am gonna do it again...) I want to be able to be one of the guys that can take off his shirt and not have people think its gross (like I have seen happen with some other guys). This means that by mid to late August, I need to lose 40-45 pounds. If I just eat better I think that will help a lot, but I think I am also going to start running at night again and try to drink some more water. To get to the weight I was in when I graduated high school, I would need to lose 55 pounds, but I think that would be pushing it, especially since my frame has changed a little and that weight would probably seem too skinny. If I lose that weight, I think I will not only seem taller, but also be able to stand straight better. What else...I think that is it for now. Below is a cut to a really long rant. I applaud you if you even got this far, if you read my ranting, thats just amazing :-P. LEAVE COMMENTS! I enjoy getting them. Even if you aren't an LJ member, post a comment anyway. | | Sunday, February 18th, 2007 | | 11:57 pm |

Bored, and I stole this from another friend.
Post anything that you want, and post it anonymously. Anything. A story, a secret, a confession, a fear, a love - anything. Be sure to post anonymously and honestly. Post twice if you'd like. Post as many times as you want. Post something you hate about me, post something you love about me. Post something that means something to you - or something you really wish would go away. But remember, anonymously! If you really feel like it, you don't have to be anonymous. Don't worry, I will make sure to screen them so that no one reads them but me. | | Friday, January 5th, 2007 | | 2:02 am |
How 'bout them Red Raiders?
So, its been a while, but I thought that I should make a comment about the bowl game. It was such a good comeback that Minnesota fired their head coach. Most everyone just talks about how they blew the game. Almost nothing is said about how we came back. Everyone hates Texas Tech for no reason. When we do something really good, they just say that the other team did something bad, but when we do bad, they talk about how Tech is overrated. It is very annoying. Anyway, best quarter of football I have seen. Just not the best game I have ever seen. So, the trip was good. Bus ride was really long (15 hours there, 17 hours back). I am not ready for school to start back up. I want a longer break. I am just hoping this semester goes better than the last. There is more I could go into, but its all personal crap that most people wouldn't care to read about. Plus I don't feel like typing it out. AAAnyway, I leave you with this thought. (I didn't get it verbatim, but you get the idea.) "My girlfriend and I were having relations the other night and I had...well, suffice it to say I arrived early. She then told me, don't worry Jimmy, it happens to lots of guys... I said, I have two problems with that. First of all, who are these 'lots of guys?' And secondly, if it has happened to a lot of us, could it possibly be a problem with you?" - Jimmy Carr | | Thursday, December 14th, 2006 | | 1:47 pm |
Can't think of anything witty for the subject at the moment....
Well, its been a while since I have done a real post, so here goes... I am really glad to have a break from school. I am getting soooo burned out. Anyway, not a lot going on in my neighborhood. Tonight I am gonna make one hell of a meal. Its kinda hard to explain, but it is a steak meal. This is like the ADD post from hell. I am going to Amarillo this weekend since I will only be able to visit my family on Christmas day otherwise. Work has me tied up pretty much the rest of the time. I will bring back my truck so I can take some stuff back to Amarillo for Christmas. I have missed my truck...It has been like a year and a half since I have driven it. I would drive it more if it got better gas mileage. The thing can fly but the gas mileage is like 9mpg in town. Oh well, even though the T-bird isnt mine, I have completely redone the audio system in there. It doesn't have a sub or anything, but I replaced the deck and all 4 speakers in it with good Alpine product. I will be in the LBK for most of the break. I will go to the Insight bowl after Christmas though. That should be a good trip. Hopefully we will bring the team that kicks ass. Anyway, ADD post done. for now.. | | Friday, December 8th, 2006 | | 9:43 am |
Ganked from Kate
The Friday Five 1. If you could, would you be a movie star or a rock star? Which one, and why? Movie star...because I can be really convincing when I want to be, plus I can't sing worth a damn. 2. Have you ever been in the media (TV, radio, papers)? All 3, mostly in high school. 3. Do you know anyone who's been on a reality TV show? Not that I know of. 4. Have you ever met anyone famous? Just some baseball players. Not any big musicians or actors. 5. Who would play you in a movie? So, aside from him being black, I am told I look like Jesse L. Martin. | | Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 | | 11:19 pm |
